This morning, I got a wild hair and decided to let the babies try their hands  (literally) at painting.  They’ve been doing hand and footprint art since they were in the NICU with the art therapist.  Plus, our home proudly displays a frame of a seasonal painting courtesy of the wee ones.   However, all artwork prior to today  has consisted of an adult painting the babies’ feet or hands, then stamping them onto canvas, and decorating the little prints.  Here is some of their previous work-

This is my favorite piece of baby art so far. We used the babies’ footprints to make robins for spring.

We did this one in December for winter.

Today was different.  Before lunch, I undressed everyone down to their diapers in preparation for paint splatter.  After the munchkins finished gobbling lunch, I wiped their faces and the table.  Next, I taped a piece of card stock in front of each one.  Being the curious little creatures they are, the babies examined their paper and enjoyed slapping it.  Paper itself is a bit boring in my opinion so I painted each babies’ hands a different color and stamped them onto the paper.  Instead of wiping their little paws clean I let them go at it, slapping the paper and smearing it with paint.  As usual, Sydney was not keen on the idea of paint on her hands.  She cried HUGE tears until the paint dried a bit on her palms.  The others thought it was great fun making a paint mess.  Rylin thought it might taste decadent so she crammed her little fingers into her mouth.   Ironically, she was the only baby to sample the paint.  Don’t worry, we used non-toxic tempera paint because chances are whatever goes on the tiny hands goes into tiny mouths.  When he was satisfied with his masterpiece, Harper decided to paint the seat belt on his chair.  I think I can wash it….maybe!   Of all the babies, Mason was the only one to do a little face paint on himself.

Ta da! These are the completed masterpieces.  Sydney got some of Rylin’s paint to add dimension to her green piece.
