Quadruplet Pregnancy

Each week of the pregnancy we took a photo to chronicle the immense growth.  Apparently mothers expecting singletons do this on a monthly basis, but with four babies I grew rapidly.  Every week there was noticeable change.

In the final weeks, my stomach was HUGE.  I was wearing XXL maternity shirts that were too short!  A staple of my maternity wardrobe was gaucho pants from Motherhood Maternity with a high stretchy waist.  I literally wore them from 16 weeks to about 6-7 post delivery!  I also loved the Liz Lange maternity t-shirts from Target.  They were extremely comfortable and versatile.  I tossed a long necklace over them to dress up a bit and often napped in them during days of bed rest.

I was pleased with myself doing a full lotus pose at 19 weeks!  I doubt Dr. Tabor would have approved.

At 20 weeks, I accepted the challenge of reading scripture at Ashley and Matt's wedding. I was terrified of toppling over at the alter, but managed to stay upright! I remember feeling the babies really kick for the first time at the reception. I think they liked the loud music.

21 weeks marked the point where bed rest began. Early on it was modified, meaning I could get up around the house a bit, and was able to leave the house if I used a power chair.

You may notice I'm wearing the same dress from 18 weeks in this picture. What a difference a few weeks made!

By 28 weeks I started feeling slightly more confident and waddled into the girls nursery for my weekly picture.

Shockingly I was still at home on bed rest at 29 weeks and then took my picture in the boys' nursery.

30 weeks turned out to be the final picture we would take. Mom and I thought it would be funny to take a picture against a red wall while I was wearing red. I didn't quite blend in to the background.

At about 22 weeks, my cousin came to the house to take professional maternity pictures.  She did a great job considering I was rather confined.

  1. Amber, you look wonderfully radiant! So glad that things are going well in spite of having to be on bedrest now. Take care of all of you 🙂 and let me hear from you please!

      • Ohh, yeah, that too… I never knew how much ribs can stretch during pregnancy! Last time I got bigger bras, used extenders, and STILL the things were too tight… That, and I had huge numb/painful/tingly section just under my ribs from all the pressure–apparently that was normal. NOT fun though. Hang in there!

      • Yep, you described it perfectly! No extender, super soft or huge bra helps either. Ugh! Glad to know its normal though. Sometimes I don’t know if my woes are normal for anyone or due to hi order multiples.

      • Yeah, I think it’s “normal” pregnancy stuff, but you’re having to experience the extremely uncomfortable end-of-pregnancy stuff for a long time, and to a greater degree as the babies get bigger. I can’t believe how big they measured–they are getting so big! Your body really is doing an incredible job, as much as it must feel like you’re falling apart!

      • That is exactly right, most probably don’t have these discomforts at less than 30 weeks! The body really is amazing. I do feel like I am falling apart, but apparently I am not if Tabor’s goal is 34 weeks!

      • There you go… now I see you’re getting big, lol. I guess ideally you will get insanely big, cause that means you will have carried them for much longer still…The bigger you get the better… I spose.

      • Lol, I really look huge now. I’m hoping they are nearing 3 pounds so I guess I should be huge!

      • For your next weeks pic (fingers crossed there is a next week) you should wear the same outfit as one of the earlier picks, week 13 for instance. We did that with our pregnancy and it was amazing the difference

      • Ha, if I could squeeze into a 13 week outfit I would. I can’t even wear stuff from 25 weeks. I am in Xxl maternity clothes, and even they are getting short. Never thought I’d be that large.

  3. Amber, you look AMAZING!!! The only thing that is growing, is your belly! Noah and I would like to come by sometime when it’s convenient for you and George. Could you give George a list of things that you still need for the babies, he can tell Noah and I will get them 😉 Looking forward to seeing you!

    • Thanks, Natalie! We would love a visit! Monday afternoon we have a doctors appointment, but are pretty much home otherwise. We just need advance notice in case someone else decides to come. There are still things on our registries at target and babies r us.

  4. Amber,

Congratulations on your little ones. We have been following your progress. Good luck this weekend and I’m sending prayers for each of your little ones and you for a calm and successful delivery. Can’t wait to see pictures of your babies 🙂

  5. So with this pregnancy what symptoms did you have? Like heartburn, nausea, farting, leg cramps, bloating, swelling feet, are those worse with a multiple pregnancy?

    Like

    • I don’t have a lot to compare it with, but I am told symptoms are exacerbated by multiples. I had some nausea usually from extreme hunger. I was starving all the time and really tired. My back ached and my skin burned a lot. Towards the end I was just really uncomfortable all the time from the weight and contractions. I only had reflux the days before delivery. Ironically, I think I am already forgetting the discomforts, but George remembers them well.
